Amanda is a leader we need
Amanda Marzullo (she/her) is running for Travis County Commissioner in Precinct 2. With a career spent advocating in courtrooms and in the halls of the Texas Capitol, Amanda brings a rare blend of policy insight, legal expertise, and an unwavering commitment to justice. She has worked on some of the toughest criminal justice issues facing our state—including the death penalty—earning a reputation as a thoughtful advocate who delivers results.
Amanda Marzullo grew up in a racially and economically segregated community, where she witnessed firsthand how inequality and discrimination shaped people’s lives. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong commitment to challenging injustice. After college, while working as a paralegal in indigent defense, she saw people—often targeted because of their background—endure outcomes dictated more by their income than the facts of their case. That clarity of purpose led her to law school and has guided her work ever since.
Amanda has spent her adult professional life in Austin serving people across Texas. At the Austin Community Law Center, she helps families in crisis navigate complex and intimidating legal systems—meeting people where they are to ensure they’re treated with dignity. As the former executive director of the Texas Defender Service, she built bipartisan coalitions to pass legislation to prevent wrongful convictions and support clemency for people deserving mercy.
Amanda holds degrees in law and criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, which awarded her a full-tuition scholarship and the GAPSA-Provost Award for her research on Kenya’s shariah law system. She also earned a degree in international law from Cambridge University, where she was honored as a Gates Scholar.
Outside of work, Amanda is a dog lover, a hands-on home renovator who remodeled her own home, and a frequent visitor to Austin’s green spaces.
Now, she’s ready to bring fresh leadership that delivers to Travis County—by innovating our legal system; expanding equitable access to services; and implementing green, community-centered solutions to ensure Travis County grows sustainably and justly.
